With the objective of motivating and preparing young students of Maharashtra for Defence Services, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Lt Gen SPP Thorat (Retd).
Based on the recommendations of this committee, the Services Preparatory Institute was established in 1977 at Aurangabad.
The institute focuses on preparing cadets physically, mentally, and academically for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla.
SPI provides specialized coaching for UPSC NDA/NA written examination and prepares cadets for SSB interviews.
