📜 Genesis of SPI

With the objective of motivating and preparing young students of Maharashtra for Defence Services, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Lt Gen SPP Thorat (Retd).

Based on the recommendations of this committee, the Services Preparatory Institute was established in 1977 at Aurangabad.

The institute focuses on preparing cadets physically, mentally, and academically for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla.

SPI provides specialized coaching for UPSC NDA/NA written examination and prepares cadets for SSB interviews.

SPI operates under the General Administration Department (Desk-28), Mantralaya.

  • Headed by a Director (Retired Armed Forces Officer)
  • Rank: Colonel or equivalent (Navy/Air Force)
  • Governing Body appointed by Government

The institute has highly experienced staff, many of whom are retired Armed Forces personnel.
